"This is a roster that 30 NBA teams would love to have," Stern said, and it didn't take a decoder ring to figure out the target of that message. Nor did he leave much doubt about his feelings for Brown's free-form critiques of his players from a week ago.

"You know, I think it's fair to say sometimes the traditional ways to motivate a team don't necessarily play out quite as well when you're in an international setting, and I'll leave it at that," Stern said.

But Stern didn't leave it at that. He wanted to make sure everyone understood that Larry Brown hadn't been forced a spoonful of unsavory medicine when he was given this roster.

"This was a team that was put together, by everyone, including the coaching staff," Stern said. "This is a great team. I don't buy the, 'Well, I'd like to have this, I'd like to have that.' "

This was not the best possible roster for international play.A lot of holes. Also not much time to prepare. No way is Brown at fault.

Sure he is. When your main 5 guys include Boozer and Richard Jefferson while Lebron and Amare Stoudamire rot on the bench it is definitely a coaches fault.

Worst piece of coaching I have seen since Joe Torre thought jeff Weaver in game 4 was a good idea.

Larry Browns fault??? LMAO. International play is about pride and team work, something this team knew nothing about. No coach is better at getting the most out of his players then Larry Brown. They were NOT the best team in the tournament and this team was NOT a dream team. Larry's Detroit Pistons would have won gold and that is a fact.

Brown doesn't use Rookies.

2004 it was Darko who rotted.

During his 76er career he left Salmons on the bench, and years' before he never used Pepe Sanchez (before he shipped him to Atlanta in the Ratliffe deal).

Pepe got his revenge.
